We are seeking a committed and experienced Social Worker to join a Looked After Children (LAC) Team. This is an opportunity to make a meaningful difference to the lives of children and young people who are unable to live with their birth families, helping them to achieve positive and lasting outcomes.
You will manage a varied caseload of looked-after children, undertaking assessments, care planning and reviews in line with statutory requirements. You will work closely with children, young people, foster carers, residential staff, birth families, schools, health professionals and other partner agencies to ensure that each child’s needs, wishes and feelings are understood and reflected in their plans.
Key responsibilities will include completing statutory visits, contributing to permanence planning, progressing rehabilitation and placement options, preparing reports for meetings and court proceedings, and maintaining accurate, timely records. You will safeguard children and young people, identify and respond to risk, and promote their emotional wellbeing, education, health, identity and relationships. You will also support children through transitions, including moving to permanency or leaving care.
The successful candidate will hold a recognised Social Work qualification and current registration with Social Work England. You will have experience of working with children and families, ideally within a looked-after children, children in care or child protection setting. A sound understanding of relevant legislation, statutory guidance and safeguarding practice is essential, along with the ability to produce clear assessments and reports.
You will be confident working autonomously while contributing effectively to a supportive, multi-disciplinary team. Strong communication, organisation and decision-making skills are required, together with a child-centred and relationship-based approach. You should be resilient, reflective and committed to continuous professional development. A valid driving licence and the ability to travel to meet children and attend appointments may be required.
This role offers the chance to build trusting relationships, influence important decisions and help children and young people develop safe, secure and fulfilling futures.
