A permanent opportunity is available for a qualified Children’s Social Worker to join a dedicated Pre- and Post-Birth Team. The role focuses on safeguarding unborn babies, infants and young children, supporting families where there are concerns about parenting capacity, domestic abuse, substance misuse, neglect, mental health or other factors that may affect a child’s safety and development.
You will undertake high-quality assessments and develop clear, evidence-based plans that promote the welfare of children and support positive outcomes for families. Responsibilities will include completing pre-birth assessments, contributing to child protection enquiries and conferences, preparing reports for court where required, and undertaking statutory visits and reviews. You will work collaboratively with parents, children, carers and partner agencies, ensuring that their views are listened to and appropriately reflected in all plans and decisions.
The successful candidate will manage a varied caseload, maintain accurate and timely records, and apply relevant legislation, guidance and safeguarding procedures. You will be expected to demonstrate sound professional judgement, identify risk effectively and take decisive action when children may be unsafe. The role also involves attending multi-agency meetings, contributing to care planning and permanence decisions, and working closely with health, education, early help, legal and other specialist services.
You must hold a recognised Social Work qualification and be registered with Social Work England. Previous experience in children’s social care, safeguarding, child protection or pre-birth work is essential, together with a thorough understanding of child development, assessment frameworks and relevant legislation. Experience of working with families experiencing complex difficulties would be highly desirable.
We are looking for a resilient, reflective and child-focused practitioner who can communicate confidently, build effective relationships and manage competing priorities. In return, you will have access to professional supervision, development opportunities and a supportive multidisciplinary working environment focused on achieving safe and lasting outcomes for children and families.
