We are seeking an experienced and committed Team Manager to lead a specialist children’s social work team supporting children and young people with disabilities, and their families. This is an opportunity to make a meaningful difference by ensuring children receive effective, strengths-based support that promotes their safety, wellbeing, development and independence.
You will provide clear professional leadership, supervision and direction to a team of qualified social workers and support staff. Your responsibilities will include overseeing referrals and assessments, ensuring robust care planning and reviewing arrangements, and promoting positive outcomes for children in line with relevant legislation, statutory guidance and safeguarding procedures. You will also monitor performance, manage workloads, quality-assure casework and contribute to service improvement.
The role involves working closely with children, parents and carers, education, health services, adult social care and other partner agencies. You will ensure that the voice of the child is central to decision-making and that families receive respectful, proportionate and responsive support. You will be expected to manage risk effectively, respond to complex situations and contribute to strategy meetings, panels and multi-agency planning.
Applicants must hold a recognised social work qualification and current registration with Social Work England. You will have substantial post-qualifying experience in children’s social care, including work with children with disabilities, safeguarding and complex family circumstances. Experience of supervising or managing social workers, alongside a sound understanding of statutory frameworks, assessment practice and relevant legislation, is essential.
You should be an excellent communicator with strong decision-making, organisation and leadership skills. We are looking for someone who can motivate a team, build effective partnerships and remain focused on achieving high-quality outcomes in a demanding environment. A commitment to equality, inclusion, reflective practice and continuous professional development is essential. A valid driving licence and the ability to travel between locations may be required.
