Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of children and young people? Gateshead Council is seeking a dedicated Children's Independent Reviewing Officer (IRO) to join our dynamic Qualified Social Work team. This role is essential in ensuring that the voices of children and young people are heard and that their rights are upheld throughout the care process.

As a Children's IRO, you will be responsible for chairing reviews of children in care, ensuring that their care plans are effective and in their best interests. Your key responsibilities will include:

Conducting regular reviews of care plans to assess progress and identify any necessary changes. Engaging with children, families, and professionals to gather insights and feedback. Providing advocacy and support to children and young people, ensuring their views are represented. Monitoring compliance with statutory requirements and quality assurance standards. Collaborating with multi-agency teams to promote the welfare and best interests of children.

The ideal candidate will possess essential qualifications and skills, including:

A recognized social work qualification (e.g., CQSW, CSS, or equivalent). Registration with Social Work England. Proven experience in children's social work, particularly with looked-after children. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse groups. A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
