We are seeking an experienced and committed Children’s Social Worker to join a busy service supporting children and families across Children in Need, Looked After Children and Assessment teams. This is an opportunity to make a meaningful difference to children’s lives by promoting their safety, wellbeing and long-term outcomes.
You will undertake high-quality assessments, identify risks and strengths, and develop effective plans in partnership with children, parents, carers and wider professionals. Your responsibilities will include managing a varied caseload, completing statutory visits, preparing reports, contributing to child protection and care planning meetings, and ensuring that children’s voices remain central to all decision-making.
Working with children who may be subject to child in need, child protection or care proceedings, you will provide purposeful intervention and regularly review progress against agreed outcomes. You will also support looked-after children by contributing to placement stability, permanence planning, pathway planning and effective transitions. Where required, you will present information clearly in meetings and court, maintaining accurate, timely and analytical records throughout.
You will work collaboratively with schools, health services, the police, fostering and adoption teams, independent reviewing officers and other partner agencies. The role requires confident professional judgement, excellent communication skills and the ability to build constructive relationships, including in complex or challenging circumstances.
Applicants must hold a recognised Social Work qualification and current registration with Social Work England. Previous experience in children’s social care, including assessment, child protection, care planning or court work, is essential. Knowledge of relevant legislation, statutory guidance and safeguarding practice is also required. You should be organised, resilient and able to prioritise effectively while managing competing demands.
A full driving licence and access to suitable transport may be required, as the role involves visiting children, families and placements across the area. In return, you will receive professional support, regular supervision and opportunities to develop your practice within a dedicated, child-focused service.
