We are seeking a qualified Social Worker to join a Family Help Team supporting children, young people and their families across Hertfordshire. This is an opportunity to make a meaningful difference by helping families build on their strengths, overcome challenges and achieve positive, lasting outcomes.
You will manage a varied caseload, completing high-quality assessments and developing effective plans with children and families. Working collaboratively, you will identify needs, strengths and risks, ensuring that children’s voices remain central to all decisions. You will provide purposeful direct work, review progress regularly and take appropriate action where circumstances change or safeguarding concerns arise.
The role involves working closely with schools, health professionals, early help services, specialist teams and other partner agencies. You will contribute to meetings, share information appropriately and ensure that plans are coordinated, proportionate and focused on improving outcomes. Accurate, timely recording and clear professional analysis will be essential, as will your ability to prepare reports and communicate confidently with families and colleagues.
Applicants must hold a recognised Social Work qualification and be registered with Social Work England. Experience of working with children, young people and families is desirable, together with a sound understanding of child development, safeguarding practice, legislation and strengths-based approaches. Applicants should be qualified to practise in Hertfordshire or able to demonstrate that their experience and knowledge are transferable to the local context.
You will need resilience, sound professional judgement and the ability to manage competing priorities in a busy environment. We are looking for someone who can build trusting relationships, work sensitively with families from diverse backgrounds and remain child-focused when faced with complexity. In return, you can expect professional support, reflective supervision and opportunities to develop your practice within a collaborative team.
A full driving licence and access to suitable transport may be required, depending on service needs. This post is subject to appropriate safeguarding and background checks.
