We are seeking a qualified and experienced social care professional to join an Emergency Duty Team in a home-based role. Working outside standard office hours, you will respond to urgent situations involving adults, children and families, helping to protect people at risk and ensure that appropriate support is arranged without delay.

You will undertake timely assessments of safeguarding and welfare concerns, respond to referrals from emergency services and partner agencies, and make proportionate decisions in complex and sometimes high-pressure circumstances. Your responsibilities will include identifying immediate risks, arranging emergency placements or support, contributing to protection planning, and taking appropriate action under relevant legislation and local procedures.

The role requires confident professional judgement and the ability to work independently while maintaining access to management advice when needed. You will communicate effectively with social workers, health professionals, police officers, care providers and other partner organisations, ensuring that information is shared appropriately and that decisions are clearly explained to individuals, families and colleagues.

Accurate and timely recording is essential. You will maintain comprehensive case notes, complete assessments and reports, and ensure that all actions and decisions are properly documented. You will also provide clear handovers to daytime services, supporting continuity of care and effective follow-up.

You must hold a recognised social work qualification and current professional registration, with substantial experience in statutory social work, safeguarding or emergency response settings. Knowledge of relevant legislation, policies and risk assessment practice is essential, together with strong written and verbal communication skills.

This position suits a resilient, organised and compassionate professional who can remain calm under pressure, manage competing priorities and work flexibly across evenings, nights, weekends and public holidays. A suitable home-working environment, reliable technology and the ability to travel when required are necessary. In return, you will have the opportunity to make a meaningful difference during critical moments and contribute to safe, effective outcomes for people requiring urgent support.
