We are currently seeking a dedicated and experienced Children's Independent Reviewing Officer (IRO) to join our team in Durham. As an IRO, you will play a crucial role in safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people under the care of the local authority.

Key responsibilities and duties:

  • Conducting reviews and monitoring the care plans of children in care to ensure their needs are being met effectively.
  • Providing independent oversight and challenge to decision-making processes involving children in care.
  • Attending meetings and case conferences to represent the best interests of the child and ensure their voice is heard.
  • Working collaboratively with social workers, carers, and other professionals to advocate for the rights and well-being of children.

Essential qualifications and skills:

  • Qualified Social Worker with HCPC registration.
  • Previous experience working within a similar role, preferably as an IRO or in a statutory child protection setting.
  • Strong understanding of relevant legislation, policies, and procedures relating to children's services.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with children, families, and colleagues.
