Child Protection Chair - Knowsley
An experienced and committed Child Protection Chair is sought to lead effective, child-centred safeguarding processes across a local authority area. This is an important role for a qualified social work professional who can provide strong, independent oversight of child protection conferences and ensure that children’s welfare remains at the heart of all decision-making.
You will chair initial and review child protection conferences, ensuring that they are conducted fairly, efficiently and in accordance with statutory guidance and safeguarding procedures. You will analyse complex information, identify risk and protective factors, and facilitate constructive contributions from children, families and professionals across partner agencies. Where appropriate, you will ensure that the child’s voice is clearly represented and that plans are focused, measurable and achievable.
The role will involve reviewing reports and assessments, making robust professional judgements, agreeing clear outcomes and ensuring that actions and timescales are understood by all involved. You will monitor the effectiveness of child protection plans, challenge drift and delay, and escalate concerns where progress is insufficient or risks increase. Accurate recording and the production of high-quality conference minutes and recommendations will also be essential.
Applicants must hold a recognised social work qualification and current professional registration, with substantial post-qualification experience in children’s social care and safeguarding. Experience of chairing child protection conferences, reviews or other complex multi-agency meetings is highly desirable. You will have a thorough understanding of relevant legislation, statutory guidance, child protection procedures and the impact of neglect, abuse and exploitation on children and young people.
You will be confident working with sensitive information, managing conflict and communicating difficult decisions with empathy and professionalism. Strong organisation, analytical ability, report-writing skills and a commitment to anti-discriminatory practice are essential. A current enhanced DBS clearance, the ability to work independently and flexibility to attend meetings across different locations are also required.
