We are seeking a committed and experienced Social Worker to join a Looked After Children (LAC) team supporting children and young people to achieve safe, stable and positive outcomes. This is an opportunity for a qualified professional who is passionate about safeguarding, permanence and improving the lives of children in care.

You will manage a varied caseload of looked after children, completing high-quality assessments, care planning and statutory visits in line with legislation, regulations and professional standards. You will work closely with children, families, foster carers, residential placements, schools, health professionals and other partner agencies to understand each child’s needs and ensure their views remain central to decision-making.

Your responsibilities will include reviewing care plans, progressing permanence arrangements, contributing to placement stability, preparing reports for looked after children reviews and attending meetings, panels and court proceedings where required. You will identify and respond to safeguarding concerns, manage risk effectively and maintain accurate, timely case records. You will also support children and young people as they prepare for independence and transition into adulthood.

Applicants must hold a recognised Social Work qualification and current registration with Social Work England. You should have relevant post-qualification experience, ideally within looked after children, children in care or child protection services, together with a sound knowledge of the Children Act, care planning regulations and safeguarding practice. Experience of court work, permanence planning and working with complex family situations would be advantageous.

You will need excellent communication, assessment and report-writing skills, alongside the ability to build trusting relationships and make balanced, evidence-based decisions. A child-centred, resilient and organised approach is essential, as is the ability to work collaboratively while managing competing priorities. You must be able to travel to meet children and attend appointments and meetings as required.

This role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful difference through relationship-based practice, reflective supervision and effective multi-agency working. If you are dedicated to achieving the best possible outcomes for children in care, we would welcome your application.
