Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council is seeking a dedicated and passionate Children’s Independent Reviewing Officer (IRO) to join our dynamic team of qualified social workers. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for ensuring that the voices of children and young people are heard and their needs are met within the care system. You will facilitate and lead reviews of care plans, ensuring that they are child-centered and in line with statutory requirements.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting regular reviews of care plans for children in care and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation.
  • Working collaboratively with social workers, children, and families to gather information and feedback.
  • Promoting the best interests of children and young people, advocating for their rights and wishes.
  • Preparing and presenting detailed reports for review meetings and ensuring that all stakeholders are informed and engaged.
  • Monitoring the quality of care provided to children and making recommendations for improvements.

The ideal candidate will possess the following essential qualifications and skills:

  • A recognized social work qualification (e.g., CQSW, DipSW, or equivalent).
  • Registration with Social Work England.
  • Significant experience in children’s social work, particularly in a reviewing or quality assurance capacity.
  • Strong understanding of current legislation, policies, and best practices in child welfare.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with children, families, and professionals.
