Sefton Council is seeking a dedicated and passionate Children's Independent Reviewing Officer (IRO) to join our dynamic Qualified Social Work team. This pivotal role involves ensuring that the needs and rights of children in care are effectively represented and safeguarded. As an IRO, you will be responsible for chairing reviews for children and young people, ensuring that their voices are heard and that their care plans are in their best interests. You will work closely with social workers, families, and other professionals to promote positive outcomes for children.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Chairing statutory reviews for children in care to assess their progress and well-being.
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and statutory guidance.
  • Monitoring and evaluating care plans to ensure they meet the individual needs of children.
  • Advocating for children's rights and promoting their participation in decision-making processes.
  • Collaborating with multi-agency teams to deliver effective support and interventions.

To be considered for this role, you must possess the following essential qualifications and skills:

  • A recognized social work qualification (e.g., Degree in Social Work, DipSW, or equivalent).
  • Registered with Social Work England.
  • Significant post-qualification experience in children's social work.
  • Strong understanding of child protection legislation and safeguarding practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with children and families.
