Senior Social Worker - Children in Care - Suffolk
An exciting opportunity is available for a Senior Social Worker to join a dedicated Children in Care service supporting children and young people to achieve safe, stable and positive outcomes. This is a rewarding role for an experienced qualified social worker who is committed to improving the lives of looked-after children and care leavers.
You will manage a complex caseload, ensuring that children receive high-quality, timely and child-centred support. Responsibilities will include completing assessments, developing and reviewing care plans, coordinating statutory visits and reviews, and promoting permanence through reunification, kinship care, special guardianship or adoption where appropriate.
Working in partnership with children, families, foster carers, residential settings, schools, health professionals and other agencies, you will ensure that children’s voices, wishes and feelings remain central to decision-making. You will contribute to safeguarding planning, manage risk effectively and prepare high-quality reports for reviews, panels and court proceedings when required.
As a senior member of the team, you will provide guidance and support to less experienced colleagues, contribute to reflective practice and help promote consistently high standards of social work. You will also be expected to participate in service development, contribute to multi-agency working and maintain accurate, timely case records in line with statutory and organisational requirements.
Applicants must hold a recognised Social Work qualification and be registered with Social Work England. You will have substantial post-qualification experience in children’s social care, particularly within children in care, care planning or leaving care services. A sound understanding of relevant legislation, safeguarding procedures, permanence planning and the needs of children who have experienced trauma is essential.
You should be confident working independently, managing competing priorities and making evidence-based decisions in complex circumstances. Strong communication, report-writing and partnership-working skills are required, together with a commitment to anti-discriminatory practice and achieving the best possible outcomes for every child.
A valid driving licence and access to a vehicle may be required due to the nature of the role and the need to visit children, families and care settings across the area.
