Social Worker - Children in Care - Suffolk
We are seeking a committed Social Worker to join a Children in Care service, supporting children and young people to achieve positive outcomes and enjoy safe, stable and fulfilling lives. This role offers the opportunity to work directly with children in care, their families, carers and wider professional networks, ensuring that each child’s voice, needs and best interests remain central to decision-making.
You will hold and manage a caseload of children and young people, completing high-quality assessments, care plans and reviews in line with statutory requirements. You will undertake regular visits, monitor placements, contribute to permanence planning and help ensure that children receive the right support to meet their emotional, educational, health and developmental needs. The role will also involve working with foster carers, residential settings, parents and partner agencies to promote stability and safeguard children from harm.
You will prepare reports for meetings, reviews and court proceedings, maintain accurate case records and take appropriate action where circumstances change or risks increase. You will be expected to build trusting relationships with children and young people, advocate for their wishes and feelings, and support plans for family reunification, long-term fostering, adoption or other appropriate permanence arrangements.
Applicants must hold a recognised Social Work qualification and current registration with Social Work England. Experience of working with children and families, ideally within a looked-after children or safeguarding setting, is essential. You should have a sound understanding of relevant legislation, statutory guidance and care planning requirements, alongside strong assessment, report-writing and communication skills.
You will be a resilient, reflective and organised practitioner who can manage competing priorities and work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. A valid driving licence and the ability to travel to meet children, families and carers across the area are required. Ongoing professional development, regular supervision and support will be available to help you succeed in this rewarding position.
