Children's SW - UASC Team - Kent
We are seeking a committed and experienced Children’s Social Worker to join a specialist team supporting Unaccompanied Asylum-Seeking Children (UASC). This is an opportunity to make a meaningful difference to young people who have arrived in the UK without a parent or suitable adult, helping them to feel safe, secure and supported as they begin to rebuild their lives.
You will hold and manage a caseload of UASC, completing comprehensive assessments and developing effective care plans in line with statutory requirements. You will work closely with foster carers, residential homes, education providers, health professionals, legal representatives, immigration services and other partner agencies to ensure each young person’s needs are understood and met.
Your responsibilities will include undertaking statutory visits, reviewing placements, assessing risks and responding appropriately to safeguarding concerns. You will support young people with their care planning, education, health, identity, cultural needs and transition towards independence. You will also contribute to age assessments where required, maintain accurate case records and prepare clear reports for meetings, reviews and legal proceedings.
The successful candidate will hold a recognised Social Work qualification and current registration with Social Work England. You should have relevant post-qualification experience in children’s social care, preferably including work with UASC, looked-after children or safeguarding. A sound understanding of legislation, statutory guidance and the challenges faced by young people seeking asylum is essential.
You will be an empathetic, resilient and organised practitioner with excellent communication and relationship-building skills. The role requires confident professional judgement, the ability to manage competing priorities and a commitment to anti-discriminatory and culturally responsive practice. You must be able to travel to meet young people and attend appointments and meetings across the service area.
This role offers the chance to work within a supportive, multi-agency environment where your practice can have a lasting impact. Ongoing supervision, professional development and opportunities to strengthen your specialist knowledge will be available.
