Social Worker - UASC Team. - Dorset
An experienced and committed Social Worker is required to join a specialist Unaccompanied Asylum-Seeking Children (UASC) team. This is an opportunity to make a meaningful difference to young people who have arrived in the UK without the care of a parent or responsible adult, helping them to feel safe, supported and able to achieve their potential.
You will manage a caseload of UASC, completing high-quality assessments and developing tailored care plans that reflect each young person’s needs, wishes, identity, culture and long-term aspirations. Your responsibilities will include undertaking statutory visits, reviewing placements, promoting education, health and emotional wellbeing, and supporting young people through transitions into independence or other suitable arrangements.
You will work closely with foster carers, residential providers, education and health professionals, legal representatives, immigration services and other partner agencies. You will ensure that safeguarding concerns are identified and acted upon promptly, maintain accurate and timely case records, prepare reports and contribute to meetings, reviews and legal processes where required. The role also involves advocating for young people and ensuring their voices remain central to all decisions.
Applicants must hold a recognised Social Work qualification and current registration with Social Work England. You should have knowledge of children’s social care legislation, safeguarding procedures, corporate parenting responsibilities and the challenges faced by asylum-seeking young people. Experience of working with looked-after children, care leavers or UASC would be highly desirable.
You will need excellent assessment, planning, report-writing and communication skills, alongside the ability to build trusting relationships with young people from diverse backgrounds. Resilience, sound professional judgement and a commitment to anti-discriminatory practice are essential. The successful candidate will be able to work independently while contributing positively to a supportive multidisciplinary team, manage competing priorities and demonstrate a consistent focus on achieving positive outcomes.
